AGESW President Sherry Cummings pleased to announce that beginning January 2009, AGESW will be the official sponsor of the Journal of Gerontological Social Work (JGSW), which is now being published by Taylor & Francis. Amanda Barusch will be assuming the role of editor-in-chief of the journal. Carmen Morano will fill the role of managing editor. We are extremely grateful to Rose Dobroff for her vision in creating the journal and to both Rose and Joanna Mellor for their consistent leadership over the years with the journal. We look forward to building on the fine work accomplished by Rose and Joanna and to working to further enhance the quality and efficiency of the JGSW.

Beginning in January 2009, receipt of the JGSW will be a benefit of membership in AGESW. AGESW members will receive 8 issues of the journal per year. To accomplish this end, membership dues will increase slightly in January. Taylor & Francis has graciously agreed to provide subscriptions to AGESW members at a tremendously discounted rate. Dues are now $65 for new and renewing members, $35 for renewing student members, and $25 for new student members. AGESW members will also have access to the new “members only” section of the AGESW website which will contain very useful features including the membership database (to foster communication among those in the field), information on aging-related funding sources and opportunities, and a job site where programs seeking faculty/open to faculty with an aging-related backgrounds can post their job announcements for viewing by doctoral students and others on the job market.

The new membership cycle for AGESW will now be January – December. To join AGE-SW or to renew you membership, print out, complete, and send in the application form (click here for PDF version of form) - along with payment - by January 1, 2009.
